Project Description:

The Global Education Movement (GEM) is a major initiative at Southern New Hampshire University to bring accredited university degrees and employment opportunities to refugees and vulnerable populations affected by forced migration including host communities around the world. 

GEM has different partners, and we are planning to have a retreat in Rwanda on 16-21 March 2020, so the GEM Administrative Assistant is looking to hire a remote-based intern to support with the GEM Partner retreat in Rwanda organization, especially the Kiziba visit.

Description of Role:

The Administrative Assistant Intern will support the GEM Administrative Assistant remotely through responsibility for the following: 

  • Get quotes from two-three hotels in Kibuye where retreat participants could stay
  • Liaise with Kepler Kiziba to organize Kiziba visit
  • Assist with small finance tasks relating to the management of receipts and/or expense claims as well as payment and invoices for other services
  • Create a participant list for confirmed participants that includes names, emails, contacts, flight booking times, etc
  • Get all dietary requirements for retreat participants
  • Arrange rooms for retreat participants 
  • Organize gifts for participants
  • Support with communications, emails, relating to GEM partner retreat 
  • Take initiative on assigned tasks which may include but is not limited to outreach to Kepler students and staff, designing templates or documents, compiling and writing reports, gathering and organizing data or information as requested 
  • Contribute to accomplishing the objectives GEM Partner retreat by delivering quality work on time as required by the supervisor

This is a two-month part-time internship position, starting from  February 3, 2020. The intern will be expected to work for 15 hours a week, remunerated at 50,000RWF/month + 5,000RWF/month airtime.

Needed Skills & Requirements:

  • Be a current student; enrolled and nearing completion of BA degree. Recent graduates are also encouraged to apply.
  • Highly motivated with ability to work independently and take initiative to problem-solve 
  • Has high expectations of him/herself and believes in high expectations for others
  • Is open and willing to give and receive feedback
  • Proficient writing and language skills in English 
  • Displays ability to effectively communicate information and ideas in written and virtual channels
  • Exceeds at building and maintaining relationships, online and offline
  • Have skills and experience with technology (including Microsoft Suite, Google Documents, and voice/video communication technology)
  • Comfortable with virtual discussions and facilitation
