At Gardens for Health International (GHI), we believe that growing and eating healthy food must be part of the long-term solution for malnutrition. We are working to integrate agriculture into the treatment of chronic malnutrition across Rwanda. Our programs emphasize locally appropriate solutions that simultaneously work to address a gap in nutrition education and poor access to nutritious foods. 


The Communications and Translation Intern will primarily support our Communications and Programs teams with Kinyarwanda-English translation, both oral and written. He/she will also assist with sharing stories from our partner families and communities; ensure our work is captured in an honest, transparent, thoughtful, and kind way; help in the process of  producing blog posts and videos to represent our work and the realities of our families; identify strategies for strengthening our in-country communications efforts; and assist our Monitoring and Evaluation team as needed. This is a great opportunity to work closely with an innovative and fast-paced nonprofit and to gain valuable experience working with an international organization. 

Gardens for Health International seeks to hire qualified, committed and experienced National to fill the following Internship position:                                         

Position:                                              Communications and Translation Intern

Place of Work:                                  Ndera Gasabo and travel  regularly to our program sites outside of Kigali

Reports to:                                         Communications Fellow

Staff directly reporting to this post:    None

Time Frame:                                        1 month Contract

Tentative Start date:                            1st October 2019


  • Assist with field visits (about 2-3 per month) to collect stories from home visits or to attend trainings and assist with translation 
  • Field visits would primarily be to Musanze or Gasabo districts (but could also bein Western or Southern provinces)
  • Contribute to strategy for blog post and video topics 
  • Act as a cultural liaison during field and home visits 
  • Translate program and communications documents from Kinyarwanda to English and from English to Kinyarwanda
  • Provide additional translation support for staff and visitors during field visits
  • Manage our Kinyarwanda Facebook Page and contribute to overall page strategy 
  • Work with our Monitoring and Evaluation team on translation and data entry as needed
  • Assist with other tasks as they come up
  • Broader role at GHI
  • Serve as a link between the organization and the community, as well as the organization and its stakeholders, to ensure that GHI understands the realities of and is communicating effectively about individual families
