Female Debate Team won silver medals with cash in female debate competition

Akilah Institute for Women (Akilah) hosted the competition of nine debating teams from different sector and private university across Rwanda. Aspire Debate organized this competition and the final was on October 30, 2015. After long way to pass through and very challenging quarterfinals; Kepler female debate team reached the final with UR-College of Science.

The news that we got from Kepler keep up states that Kepler Female Debate Team reached on the final of the competition after winning different session where they faced with different university teams from provinces and Kigali City. News says that on the final that was engaged by Kepler and U-R College of Science with British High Commissioners as guest of honor. Between this two teams, Kepler emerged as first run up with silver medals and cash prize of Rwf 150,000.

News from Newtimes Rwanda say that this competition was brought about to examine and improve women critical thinking and ability to persuade on the certain topics. David Ntambiye the Aspire Debate National Coordinator, explained that they have decided to promote debate among young women after realizing that male students dominated the previous competition “We had very few ladies participating in debates previously and some of those who participated were not confident enough to take on their male counterparts,” David Ntambiye said. During this completion which was to see the rate of critical thinking in female, the best critical thinkers than others were Kepler and U-R College of Science students.
